FDA’s Foreign Supplier Verification Program (FSVP) begins May 27th!!!

A key component on the Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA) is the Foreign Supplier Verification Program (FSVP). On May 27th, the importers of record (IOR) must report additional information on the US based importer of that food. The FSVP importer is defined as the US party with a “direct financial interest in the food product.” The information required from the FSVP importer includes:

  • Contact Information
  • DUNS Number
  • Food Facility FDA Registration Number

Typically, if you are a Canadian Company that acts as the IOR on your shipments, it will be your responsibility to obtain the information above from your US customers. On May 27th this information will be mandatory for FDA release of the goods.

If you are still wondering if your company is subject to FSVP, the FDA has published a helpful info-graphic. If you still have questions, please contact the US Transition Team at transitionus@willsonintl.044d949.netsolhost.com
