NCBFAA Co-Chair calls FSVP “A Game Changer”

The National Customs Broker and Freight Forwarders Association of America’s RAC Co-Chair, Mike Lahar, spoke out about the FDA’s Foreign Supplier Verification Program (FSVP) that will go into effect on May 30th, 2017.  In addition to the elements of increased responsibility of the FSVP importer, Lahar addressed two key points to the trade community: Exclusions and Implementation.

Though the FSMA (Food safety modernization Act) and the FSVP contain many exclusions and modified requirements, US Customs ACE system still requires the FSVP information (DUNS number and Contact information) for the entry to be transmitted.

Additionally, the NCBFAA has requested a meeting with the FDA Director of Enforcement in early May to discuss the need for a phased in roll-out of the requirements, rather than the current May 30th  mandatory requirement date that is currently in place.
