Regulatory changes regarding the use of medically important anti-microbials in animals and livestock feed

The responsible use of antimicrobials is essential to the protection of Canadians’ health, as well as the health and safety of Canada’s food, animals and plants.

As an outcome of the Government of Canada activities and new policies related to antimicrobial resistance, the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) is updating the Compendium Medicating Ingredient Brochures (CMIB) to align with Canada’s policies on the use of antimicrobials in livestock feed.

The new CMIB will be available on the CFIA website on April 1, 2018. During the phase-in period, from April 1 to November 30, 2018, manufacturers may continue to use the old CMIB for labelling purposes. The changes will come into effect on December 1, 2018.
