Steel permit application must be submitted prior to release

Notice to Importers No. 911 – Clarification

Although paragraph 4.2.4 of Notice to Importers No. 911 states that: For a shipment to be free of the surtax, the importer must present a valid shipment-specific import permit to the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) at the time of final accounting, and CBSA has confirmed that permit need not be presented at time of release, Global Affairs Canada has advised that the permit application must be submitted prior to release.  Permits will not be issued after the release of goods.
