Expiry of Specific Rules of Origin Provisions under the Canada-United Kingdom Trade Continuity Agreement

This is to advise of the imminent expiry of the application of specific rules of origin provisions under the Canada-United Kingdom Trade Continuity Agreement (CUKTCA).

These provisions which pertain to Origin Quotas as outlined in paragraph 3 of Annex 5-A and to the cumulation of origin of materials and production carried out in the European Union (EU) as outlined in paragraphs 2A, 2B and 2C, are found in the Protocol on Rules of Origin and Origin Procedures.

The ability to benefit from the Origin Quotas as well as from the cumulation of origin of EU materials and production will cease as of April 1, 2024, three years after entry into force of the CUKTCA, as stipulated in the paragraphs referenced above.

Therefore, the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) will administer the CUKTCA’s rules of origin without the application of these provisions beginning on April 1, 2024.

For inquiries regarding the expiry of these origin quotas, please contact Global Affairs Canada’s designated mailbox: Origin.Quotas-Contingents.Origine@international.gc.ca.
