USDA APHIS Bans Imports of Cherries and other Fruit from Ontario, Quebec

Federal Order DA-2017-15 was issued to prohibit entry of European cherry fruit fly host commodities from Ontario and Quebec into the United States. This is effective immediately. The following fruits and plants are now PROHIBITED:

  • Black cherry (Prunus serotina)
  • Mahaleb cherry (P. mahaleb)
  • Sour cherry (P. cerasus)
  • Sweet cherry (P. avium)
  • Wild Cherry (Prunus spp.)
  • Exotic Bush Honeysuckles (Lonicera spp.)

This action is in response to detection of the European cherry fruit fly in Quebec. This ban was already in place for the same fruit fly detected in Ontario.
