As of January 31, 2026, the remission relief previously provided under Order in Council (OIC) 25 0466C for steel goods has expired, and no extension was granted by the Government of Canada.
If your goods do not meet the conditions of any alternative exemption, you may wish to evaluate whether submitting a remission request to the Department of Finance.
On February 25, 2026, further amendments to the United States Surtax Remission Order (2025) will be published in the Canada Gazette, Part II. These changes clarify the structure of available remissions and specify which goods and importers may continue to benefit. The Canada Border Services Agency is expected to amend the existing Customs Notice.
