In his remarks to Congress, United States Trade Representative (USTR) Jamieson Greer has identified several conditions that Canada must meet in order for the Canada United States Mexico Agreement (CUSMA) to be extended following its planned 2026 review.
Among them are modifications to Canada’s supply management regime for dairy products, changes to the rules for online streaming companies, and an end to the provincial boycotts of American alcohol.
USTR Greer also mentioned other concerns, including “discriminatory procurement measures” in Ontario, Quebec and B.C. and “complicated customs registration” that some Canadian companies must adhere to when receiving U.S. exports.
