Regulations to collect country of smelt and cast (CSC) information for aluminum products subject to the Aluminum Import Monitoring Program have been approved and published in the Canada Gazette, Part II: Order Amending the General Import Permit No. 83 — Aluminum Products: SOR/2026-136
The regulations will come into force on October 1, 2026.
Certain aluminum goods will be subject to aluminum reporting requirements administered by Global Affairs Canada (GAC) under General Import Permit (GIP) No. 83.
To support customs clearance, importers must provide the required aluminum origin information for all goods covered by GIP 83.
Action Required
Please provide the following information, which can be obtained on the mill test report or directly from the metal producer. Distributor or third-party statements may not be accepted.
Failure to provide this information will result in delays in customs processing and release of the shipment.
Required Data Elements
- Complete and detailed description of imported goods
- Country of Largest Smelt (CLS)
- Country of Second-Largest Smelt (C2S) (if applicable)
- Country of Most Recent Cast (CRC)
Flexibility is being provided to importers, especially small businesses, as the requirement to provide CSC information would not apply to imports of applicable aluminum goods that do not exceed $5,000.
