APHIS to begin sending ‘Letters of Non-Compliance’ for Lacey Act Declaration Errors

The US Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS) will begin notifying importers and customs brokers when Lacey Act declarations are submitted containing errors.  This will begin October 1st, 2018. Importers (and importers of record) will most commonly receive these notices via email and do not need to take action on the declaration in question.  Rather, importers should take steps to correct future declarations.  Failure to correct the errors may result in investigation or enforcement action.
