Canadian Pacific Railway workers go on strike

More than 3,000 locomotive engineers and conductors at Canadian Pacific Railway went on strike on Tuesday night, labour union Teamsters Canada said in a statement.

Canadian Pacific Railway has commenced its work stoppage contingency plan and will work closely with customers to ensure a smooth, efficient and safe wind down of operations.

The shutdown of its operations affects shipments originating in Canada with destinations of Canada or the U.S. as well as shipments originating in the U.S. with destinations in Canada.

Talks between the union and Canadian Pacific Railway are ongoing and federal mediators are involved to reach a agreement.

Additional information will be provided as it becomes available.
