CBP Centers Validating Claims of US Origin on Steel Products and Aluminum Products

U.S. Customs & Border Protection has begun issuing requests to substantiate claims of U.S. origin steel and aluminum products for items classifiable in Chapters 72 and 73, not entered under the free “U.S. Goods Returning” provision 9801.00.10.

Documents supporting a claim of U.S. origin may include: manufacturer’s affidavit, certificate of origin, export documentation, or a mill test report.  Failure to furnish supporting documents at time of entry may result in verification.

If substantiating documents cannot be produced to satisfy the verification of U.S. origin, CBP will assess the additional Section 232 duties of 25% for foreign steel and 10% for foreign aluminum.
