CBP Issues “Three Strike” Policy on Wood Packaging Violations

U.S. Customs & Border Protection released new guidelines for penalty mitigation in the event of violation to the wood packaging materials (WPM) regulations.

First time offenders will have the opportunity to mitigate a penalty own to between 1 and 10 percent of the value of the penalty.  Second offenders will have the opportunity to mitigate down to 10 to 25 percent. Third time offenders will only be able to mitigate down to 25 percent of the value.  The regulations are meant to keep wood-boring pests from entering the United States.
