CPSC Import Surveillance Ongoing

The Consumer Products Safety Commission’s (CPSC) Office of Import Surveillance (EXIS) works directly with U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) to identify and examine imported shipments of consumer products.

There are no pre-filing requirements for products subject to the CPSC purview.  Additionally, there is not a list of HTSUS numbers for reference.  However, it is important to note that should a shipment contain products that the CPSC is interested in, CPSC will flag the entry and request that compliance documentation is electronically provided to CBP.

If CPSC issues a Notice of Violation, the notice will advise companies of the violation and of the nature of the necessary corrective action, which may include a recall, stop sale, or correction of production.

The CPSC has established a business education webpage that includes for various consumer products.  If your company sells consumer products into the United States, please take time to review this webpage for any guidelines specific to your products.
