Detroit FDA Revises Hours of Operation

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in the port of Detroit has notified the trade community that their hours of operation have now changed.  The new hours are as follows:

Monday through Friday: 8:00 am to 4:30 pm

Saturday and Sunday: Operating remotely

If the shipment receives an FDA 1USG/May proceed message, the carrier can cross the border on the weekend.  However, If the shipment receives an exam notification, please direct the carrier to cross during FDA hours.

Please note that goods should not be opened or distributed in the U.S. until a 1USG/FDA may proceed message has been received.

Willson International and the FDA recommend the use of Import Trade. Auxiliary Communication System (ITACS), to upload documentation, check the FDA status of an entry, and receive FDA “Notices of Action.”

If you are an importer of food, and you do not have an ITACS account, it can be requested through the FDA Unified Registration and Listing System.  Instructions for registration are provided in the ITACS Account Management presentation.  Leveraging this technology will allow your company to have direct access the most current information on your shipments.

COVID-19 is a global challenge. Keeping our supply chains moving is important for maintaining the health and wellbeing of citizens and businesses. While the Canada - U.S. border is now closed to non-essential traffic, it is still open for trade and commerce. We are committed to doing our part for global supply chains.

We are protecting the health and safety of our employees. They are working from home, except for critical functions that require certain equipment or managing paper/courier flow. In those cases we are following social distancing guidelines.

We are open and available to assist you, and key players in your supply chains. Our dedicated staff are available 24/7 and our brokerage and logistics experts are available to help you make adjustments to your supply chain, if necessary.

We encourage you to check out the government programs available to families, businesses, exporters and importers. And, while respecting the need for social distancing we encourage everyone, including our staff, to reach out and remain connected to family, friends, colleagues and customers.

Stay safe.
