GSP Set to Expire on December 31st, 2017

The Generalized System of Preferences is a duty free entry program that allows for duty free entry of goods shipped directly from a number of nations.  However, this program is currently set to expire on December 31st unless it is renewed by the United States Congress.  CBP has instructed the trade to continue making the claim of Special Program Indicator (SPI) A, A+, or A* to ‘flag’ the entries that contain GSP eligible goods if this program expires.  If the program is retroactively reinstated, US Customs will begin processing refunds for shipments with the SPI claimed and duty paid to CBP.  If your goods enter duty free under GSP, please ensure that your documents contain the GSP statement so the claim can be made.
