The Canadian Food Inspection Agency’s (CFIA) National Import Service Centre (NISC) is advising industry stakeholders of a mandatory requirement to declare all slaughter establishment numbers exactly as indicated on the Official Meat Inspection Certificate (OMIC) and for each related product line, in the Integrated Import Declaration (IID) for applicable meat import commodities.
This requirement is being implemented to support accurate verification activities, seamless processing of transactions and maintaining the integrity of CFIA import controls.
All slaughter establishment numbers listed on the OMIC, where applicable, must be declared in IID. When more than one slaughter establishment number appears on the OMIC, each establishment number must be entered separately using registration code 122. Registration code 122 may be used multiple times per commodity line; however, only one establishment value may be entered per use of the registration type.
Brokers and importers are reminded that this represents a change from past practices. A 45-day transition period will begin upon publication of this notice. During this period, shipments will continue to be processed as normal while brokers update internal procedures, systems, and arrangements with third party service providers to ensure compliance. Following the end or completion of the transition period, CFIA will begin verifying compliance, and IID declarations missing required slaughter establishment information may be subject to rejection.
This change is applicable for all meat import shipments (Offshore and USA origins).
