The Canadian Food Inspection Agency’s (CFIA) National Import Service Centre (NISC) is advising industry stakeholders of a mandatory requirement to declare all slaughter establishment numbers exactly as they appear on the Official Meat Inspection Certificate (OMIC) for each applicable product line in the Integrated Import Declaration (IID) for eligible meat import commodities.
This requirement is being implemented to support accurate verification activities, facilitate efficient transaction processing, and maintain the integrity of CFIA import controls.
Where applicable, all slaughter establishment numbers listed on the OMIC must be declared in the IID. If multiple slaughter establishment numbers are identified on the OMIC, each number must be entered separately using registration code 122. Registration code 122 may be used multiple times within a commodity line; however, only one establishment number may be entered per use of the registration type.
Brokers and importers are advised that this requirement represents a change from previous practices. A 45-day transition period will begin on the date this notice is published. During this period, shipments will continue to be processed as usual while brokers and importers update their internal procedures, systems, and arrangements with third-party service providers to ensure compliance.
Following the transition period, CFIA will begin verifying compliance. IID declarations that do not include all required slaughter establishment information may be subject to rejection.
This requirement applies to all meat import shipments, including those originating from the United States and offshore countries.
