U.S. Customs & Border Protection begins use of new Form 5106: Create/Update Importer Identity

On March 17th, U.S. Customs & Border Protection (CBP) began using its new version of the Form 5106. This form is most often used when a company’s name or address changes, but also when a new buyer is established in CBP’s system. The new version differs from the current version and many of the changes and will involve collecting more details about the entity.  We strongly recommend that your customs invoice shows the required fields, which include:

IRS or Tax Identification Number
Email Address
Phone Number
Address Type (Example: Residence, Corporate Office, Warehouse, Retail Location, Office Building, Business Service Center, Post Office Box)

As a stakeholder, it is important that your company is familiar with the new changes and additional information that will be required for this form. CBP’s previously conducted a webinar on the topic and created a “Frequently Asked Questions” webpage based on the feedback.

Failure to include these data elements on the invoice may result in delayed shipment processing.
