The Department of Commerce has now proposed new regulations that would create an Aluminum Import Monitoring and Analysis System that is similar to the current steel import monitoring system. This system would require either aluminum importers or their brokers to submit information through an online portal to obtain an aluminum license prior to entry summary.
This system would contain three parts: An online registration system for aluminum importers, an automatic aluminum license issuance system, and an import monitoring website.
Comments on this rule are due May 29th, 2020.
