UPDATE – New information on Steel & Aluminum Tariffs released

Late last night, U.S. Customs issued CSMS 18-000240 regarding the implementation of the new steel and aluminum tariffs that became effective at 12:01 AM today.

Additional exemptions have been granted for the period of March 23, 2018 through April 30, 2018, for the following countries:

Argentina, Australia. Austria, Belgium, Brazil, Bulgaria, Canada, Croatia, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania,
Luxembourg, Malta, Mexico, Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, South Korea, Spain, Sweden, and the United Kingdom

As of May 1st, 2018, these duties will apply to all countries of origin.  We do expect this to change by April 30th and we will provide that information once it becomes available.

Please verify the country of origin of your goods to ensure it is correctly declared.  

Please note this is based on the country-of-origin and NOT the country-of-export.

The merchandise covered by the additional duties MAY ALSO be subject to anti-dumping  and/or countervailing duties.

The proclamation has defined “steel articles” subject to the additional duties in the Harmonized Tariff Schedule as:

• 7206.10 through 7216.50
• 7216.99 through 7301.10
• 7302.10
• 7302.40 through 7302.90
• 7304.10 through 7306.90

The proclamation has defined “aluminum articles” subject to the additional duties in the Harmonized Tariff Schedule as:

• HTS 7601 – Unwrought aluminum
• HTS 7604 – Aluminum bars, rods, and profiles
• HTS 7605 – Aluminum wire
• HTS 7606 and 7607 – Aluminum plate, sheet, strip, and foil (flat rolled products)
• HTS 7608 and 7609 – Aluminum tubes and pipes and tube and pipe fitting
• HTS 7616.99.5160 – Aluminum castings
• HTS 7616.99.5170 – Aluminum forgings
