USTR Proposes Section 301 Duties

The United States Trade Representative (USTR) initiated 60 investigations examining the failure of certain countries to impose and effectively enforce prohibitions on the importation of goods produced with forced labor. As a result, USTR is proposing to apply Section 301 duties of 10% or 12.5% on imports from all 60 countries, with certain exceptions, including USMCA-compliant goods from Canada and Mexico. Section 122 duties are set to expire July 24, 2026, and the proposed Section 301 tariffs could take effect around that same time.
