Animal Feed Industry Notice

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) has published an update for stakeholders regarding the implementation of the Feeds Regulations, 2024.

Notice to industry – Importation of livestock feed into Canada: Final implementation of the Feeds Regulations, 2024

The temporary transition period that allowed “proof of exemption” for Part I single ingredient feeds (SIFs) will end on July 20, 2026.

In most cases, imported livestock feed, including SIFs listed in Part I of the Canadian Feed Ingredients Table (CFIT), must now be:

  • registered, or
  • imported by a license holder

Stakeholders are encouraged to review the full notice and ensure compliance by July 20, 2026.
