EPA Updates Formaldehyde Standards for Composite Wood Products

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has issued a final rule, effective November 27, 2026, updating the voluntary consensus standards referenced under the Toxic Substances Control Act (TSCA) for composite wood products that contain formaldehyde.

The revisions update certain testing methods and product standards, including the addition of a new small-scale quality control chamber test method and the removal of a redundant standard.

Importers, manufacturers, and suppliers of composite wood products should review the updated standards to ensure continued compliance with applicable formaldehyde emission requirements.
