FDA Issues First Warning Letter for FSVP Violations

On August 13th, the FDA issued the first warning letter to an importer that was found to have violated the Final Rule on Foreign Supplier Verification Programs (FSVP) for Importers of Food for Humans and Animals.  This importer was cited for failure to develop a food safety plan for one of their products.  The investigation took place as a result of a salmonella outbreak.

Willson International recommends that our clients take an active role in educating their U.S. buyers on the FSVP requirements and particularly the development of a food safety plan.
