The U.S. Trade Representative and the U.S. Commerce Secretary stated that if NAFTA 2.0 negotiations do not conclude in the next few weeks, passage will not occur until the end of 2018. House of Representative Democrats authoured a letter to President Donald Trump illustrating their position that the NAFTA 2.0 bill and an announcement of NAFTA withdraw should not be done simultaneously. Use of this tactic has been rumored as a method that may be used to pressure passage of the NAFTA renewal bill.
