Commercial Customs Operations Advisory Committee (COAC) Emerging Technologies Working Group has been investigating possible applications for blockchain technology within U.S. Customs.
Blockchain is a continuously growing list of records that are resistant to modification of data. Through working group sessions at U.S. Customs, the Advisory Committee identified blockchain as a potentially useful application in NAFTA/CAFTA verification because the process requires an investigation deeper into the supply chain. CBP will launch a pilot program this fall.
