The U.S. Department of Commerce is seeking public comments on a proposal to add 14 derivative products to the scope of Section 232 duties on steel, aluminum, and copper imports. The proposed additions include products such as brass wind musical instruments, safes, trailers, fire extinguishers, oxygen tanks, and other articles.
According to Commerce, these products are predominantly composed of steel, aluminum, and/or copper by weight and may therefore undermine the objectives of Presidential Proclamations 9704, 9705, and 10962. If adopted, the proposal would subject these additional derivative products to applicable Section 232 tariffs.
Public comments are due August 27, 2026.
